The Avon Historical Society’s goal was both to preserve a piece of American history and to celebrate the tradition of public education so important to this nation then and now.

So the Avon Historical Society is in the midst of a major three-part renovation project for the 1865 Pine Grove Schoolhouse, the one-room schoolhouse that has stood in town for 161 years.

The school served children in Avon from 1865 to 1949. The town will unveil the renovations next month, and the improvements include a new interior paint job through a local partnership with Thomas Mach Interiors of Simsbury, Conn, repairs to the 19th-century chalkboard pulley system, and repairs to several small holes in the roof.
